There has been considerable discussion recently within the corporate world regarding whether a company would be better off making employees liable for their wireless devices (IL – Individual Liable) or if the company should own the liability (CL – Corporate Liable).
Consultants have claimed that employees are dissatisfied with the choices that they are being offered by their IT departments. I.e., They are offered an Android Smartphone (at lower cost) vs. an iPhone. IT telecom managers are claiming that they are complying with corporate security and that they must protect corporate data and can wipe devices should the device be lost or stolen.
There was much truth to this statement since only recently did the iPhone data become encrypted and the device became wipeable.
Many companies began throwing their hands up into the air and decided to abandon the management of wireless devices (CL) because the situation, in their minds, had become unwieldy. So, what is the real solution? Stay the course with (CL) devices. There are many hidden costs for moving to IL devices. This paper will reveal these hidden costs based upon years of experience working in both environments.
